Duvet Cover Buyers Guide

Purchasing bedding is often a considerable investment, so one goal of any search for new bedding should be to find a quality constructed and stylish duvet cover set that can be enjoyed for many years after purchase. The variety of duvet sets can make it a challenge to choose one that is perfect for your bedroom. This guide is intended to help you think through the many aspects to consider when select a duvet set.
Size
Duvet cover sizes vary by manufacturer and sometimes even by ensemble of the same manufacturer. Fortunately, matching the size of your duvet to the size of your bed does not have to be precise. The bedding industry has defined four common bed sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, and King. With the dimensions of modern bedrooms increasing, a wider version of the King size called the California King is also becoming an increasingly popular bed size. Duvet covers, like comforters and sheets, are made to fit each of these sizes and named accordingly. Typically, a single duvet cover size is offered for both Full and Queen sized beds. Below are general guidelines for the various sizes of duvet covers. Classic Duvets provides the dimensions of all of its duvet covers online.
Twin Duvet Cover 63 x 85 to 68 x 88
Queen Duvet Cover 85 x 91 to 90 x 92
King Duvet Cover 104 x 92 to 106 x 92
California King Duvet Cover 102 x 99
Style
As evidenced by the popularity of such a wide range of contemporary and traditional duvet covers, the correct style for your bedroom is largely a matter of personal taste or preference. Bedding is an opportunity to express your personal sense of style. However, there a few interior design concepts that you should consider before buying your duvet set. First, the duvet cover typically is of a similar style as the bed and other prominent bedroom furnishings. If your bedroom is furnished in a very traditional fashion, a traditional floral, plaid, or solid duvet set is often most appropriate. Similarly, the duvet cover should also complement the style and colors of your bedroom’s wall art, window dressings, and floor covering. Fortunately, many manufacturers offer fabric and window dressings in the same patterns as their duvets. Thus, manufactures make it easy to coordinate the most prominent pieces of most bedrooms, the bed and curtains. Finally, do not overlook the decorative qualities of accent pillows which accompany the duvet cover offering. Accent pillows provide depth and character to the large area occupied by your queen or king size bed. Additionally, accent pillows that complement the duvet cover also provide additional colors, patterns, and textures. Including accent pillows, therefore, can be used to help define and transition to wall art, window dressings, and other decorative items in the bedroom.
Comfort
Desire for a restful nights sleep should be a key consideration when choosing bedding. Therefore, comfort should be one of your top priorities when selecting a duvet cover set. Like style, fabric preference varies from one individual to the next. Below is a description of the qualities of a few fabrics common to duvet covers.
Cotton Duvet Cover Cotton is by far the most common fabric used in bedding. Cotton fiber is extremely versatile. Cotton fabric takes on dyes well and can be woven into countless of patterns and textures. Most importantly, cotton fabric is comfortable. Cotton is soft to the touch and allows air to pass through, or "breathes", better than other fabrics.
Cotton/Polyester Blends Duvet Cover Cotton/Polyester Blends are designed to combine the best properties cotton and polyester. Polyester is a synthetic fabric known for its durability and resistance to wrinkles. However, polyester is not near as soft and does not breathe like cotton. The relative make up of Cotton/Polyester blends, therefore, reflect the trade-off between the comfort of cotton and the durability of polyester.
Faux Suede Duvet Cover Faux Suede is a 100% polyester fabric that looks and feels like real suede. Faux suede has many advantages over real suede. It is much less expensive, easier to clean, available in an endless spectrum of colors. Additionally, faux suede maintains its color better than real suede.
Silk Duvet Cover Silk fabric is luxurious and delicate. Silk also takes on dyes well producing rich lustrous colors. The combination of unmatched comfort and elegant appearance makes silk a popular choice for luxury bedding for centuries.
Final Thoughts
Before diving into the shopping experience, take a break and spend some quite time in your bedroom. Imagine what colors, patterns, and textures would fit your style and also be the most comfortable. And remember, you can always email customerservice@classicduvets.com if you have questions.
